Abstract
The early 1920s ushered in global new political and social circumstances following the Russian Revolution, which also impacted French women. This paper seeks the relationship between certain socialist feminists and the French Communist Party in France. It begins by examining how wartime pacifism gained significance through women’s advocating for peace. Subsequent sections explore the alignment of these feminists and syndicalists with the Communist Party. One encounters an experienced pacifist and socialist educator who declined party membership due to objections against the 21 conditions set by the Communist International. However, a young textile worker joined the party without questioning its political beliefs. The final part analyzes how female party members responded to the bolshevization process imposed on the party soon after its establishment. Their criticism of altering the party's principles and structure was rooted in the autonomous ethos of French syndicalism.
