이 연구에서는 지역사회의 사회적 자본과 아동방임 및 학대 간의 관계를 설명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국아동청소년패널 초4패널 5차년도 자료에 응답한 1,960명의 자료와 이들이 거주하고 있는 89개 시군구에 대한 지역사회 특성 자료를 이용하여 다층모형 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 아동방임의 정도는 지역사회 간 차이가 있었으며, 학대의 경우 지역사회 간 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 아동방임과 학대 경험의 정도와 지역사회의 사회적 자본 간 영향이 있는가를 살펴본 결과, 아동방임의 경우 지역사회 내의 공동체 의식과 다문화 수용 정도가 높을수록 방임의 정도는 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 지역사회 내의 기초생활보장 수급률이 높을수록 방임의 정도는 높았다. 반면, 학대의 경우 농어촌지역이 중소도시에 비해 학대 경험 정도가 높았고, 지역사회 내의 저소득 한부모 가구비율이 높을수록 학대의 정도 또한 높은 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 방임의 경우 아동의 공격성이 높을수록 방임의 정도가 높았고, 가족의 경제적 상태가 좋을수록 방임의 정도는 낮았다. 학대의 경우 남자 아동이 여자 아동보다 그리고 공격성이 높을수록 학대 경험의 정도가 많았고, 어머니의 학력수준이 높을수록 학대 경험의 정도는 낮았다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 통하여 아동방임과 학대가 발생하기 쉬운 지역사회 특성을 파악할 수 있었고, 지역사회 수준에서 아동학대 발생의 잠재적 가능성이 높은 가족을 표적으로 하여 예방 개입을 할 수 있는 유용한 근거를 제공하였다.
Abstract
This study explored the relationship between neighborhood social capital and child maltreatment using the data from the Korea Children's Youth Panel that 1,960 respondents participated in and the neighborhood-level data(the poverty rate, the proportion of low-income single parent families, the perception of neighborhood quality, the sense of community, and the multicultural acceptance). A multi–level model was employed. As a result, the degree of child neglect was influenced by the social capital of the neighborhood such as the perception of neighborhood quality, and the degree of multiculturalism acceptance. In other words, the experience of neglect was relatively higher in the neighborhood with the higher levels of the perceived neighborhood quality or multicultural acceptance. On the other hand, the child abuse was related with the proportion of low-income single-parent households. And the experience of child abuse was relatively higher in rural areas with relatively limited resources. Child aggression and family’s economic status were also related to child neglect. The gender of child, child aggression, and mother’s academic background were associated with the child abuse. The implications of the findings are discussed.
