아카이브의 열람실은 묵독의 시대에 태어나 충실히 묵독을 제공하고 있다. 그러나 읽는다는 것에는 낭독도 있다. 낭독과 대화의 리듬으로 전개되는 기록읽기를 위해, 각도를 조금 틀어, 읽기의 공간으로 아카이브를 마주한다. 도서관이나 독립서점, 일상의 다양한 독서모임이 추구하는 인간의 읽기에 아카이브도 합류해서 적정한 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다. 아카이브의 기록읽기는 그 물성과 법률적 성격의 차이로 인해 책읽기와는 다른 양상으로 전개된다. 그러나 이런 차이를 통해 책읽기의 한계를 넓혀가며 읽기의 새로운 매력을 줄 것이다. 나아가 일상적 읽기(예. 스마트 폰. 식당 메뉴판)에 대한 검토도 가능할 것이다. 기록읽기는 처음에는 아카이브 열람서비스의 개선이라는 취지로 모습을 드러냈다. 그런데 시간이 지나면서 여기서는 인간이 주인공이라는 사실이 뚜렷해지자, 문학과 인류학이 개입해 들어왔다. 인간을 탐험하는 문학과 인류학의 개입은 기록읽기에 생동감을 준다. 기록읽기에는 유기체적 성격이 있다. 기록읽기는 참여하는 사람들의 삶에 영향을 미친다. 기록읽기라는 존재도 주변 환경에 적응하며 변화한다. 이 글은 기록읽기의 존재를 드러내며 이해의 폭을 넓히고 지속가능성도 탐색해보는 시도이다.
Abstract
We approach the archive as a public space for reading. This is because we believe that archives can play a vital role in the human reading promoted by libraries, independent bookstores, and various everyday reading groups. Due to differences in their physical and legal nature, archival reading unfolds in a different way from book reading. This approach expands the boundaries of book reading and offers a new appeal. Furthermore, it can also examine everyday reading (e.g., smart phones, restaurant menus). Archival reading initially emerged with the aim of improving archival reference services. However, as time passed and the human protagonists became clearer, literature and anthropology intervened. This intervention energizes archival reading. Archival reading possesses an organic nature. Archival reading impacts the lives of its participants, and archival reading itself adapts and evolves as it evolves. This article attempts to reveal the existence of archival reading, broaden our understanding, and explore its sustainability.
