이 논문은 영화 ‘헤드윅’의 분석을 통해 주체적 미디어 리터러시를 위한기호학적 가능성을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 분석대상인 영화 <헤드윅>은 2000년 존 캐머론 미첼이 감독과 주연을 맡아 선댄스 영화제 등 다수의 국제영화제에서 수상을 하고, 많은 비평가들로부터 ‘21세기형 <록키호러 픽처 쇼>’라는 찬사를 받은 록 뮤지컬 감성의 대표적 컬트영화로, 본논문은 영화 헤드윅의 메시지를 기호학의 관점에서 접근하여 이들의 이미지와 서사를 재해석하고자 하였다. 본 논문은 기존의 영화 평단에서 언급한 성적 소수자들의 메시지로 이 영화를 해석하기보다는 중간자로서 새로운 성적 정체성을 규정하고자 했다는 데 그 의미가 있다. 본 논문에 적용된기호학적 분석도구들은 영화 ‘헤드윅’이 전달하고자 하는 핵심 메시지(자유와 성체성의 문제)가 어떻게 표층구조와 서사구조에서 실현되고 있는지를 구체화하고, 동일한 대상에 대해 다양한 읽기를 수행하는 주체적 미디어 스토리텔링이 어떠한 메카니즘에서 수행될 수 있는지를 확인하는 데기여한다.
Abstract
This thesis on the film called ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ is aiming at the semiotic approach for the subject-oriented media literacy on it. The semiotic analysis tool on this thesis would materialize how the main theme on this film, which are the freedom and sexual identity is realized within its surface structure and the narrative structure. And it could also verify on which mechanism could realize the subject oriented media storytelling, which performs the various reading on the identical object. This thesis is significant in a way of attempting to break the superficial and uniformed viewpoint from the existing theories.
