Abstract

The problem of sexuality is one of the kernel domains in modernity. Nevertheless it is not expressed openly. Dealing with sexuality in novels, they are treated as vulgar literature easily. The relations of modernity and sexuality are a subject which we must not overlook, and we can find them in Na-Do-Hyang’s literature. Comparing sexuality with romantic love, Na-Do-Hyang never excludes sexuality itself. Being like another authors in that he also views sexuality from the category of the reasonal and moral, he differs from them in that he doesn’t exclude sexuality onesidedly. He admits being of sexuality which tears himself, therefore, through doing that, he discovers realities in his works. Na-Do-Hyang’s literature has meaning of reflecting realities of Colony Chosen which couldn’t develope modem individualism. In this view, I think, his works is also the origin of the lyrical and provincial novel group in korean modem novel history. It worked a emotional supplement of korean who couldn’t take part in modernization actively, and acted on decreasing the difference between intellectuals and people in aesthetic tendency, too.
