Abstract
The article is a review of Kim Ryeo-sil's Culture Cold War - Public Information Service in Korea and USIS Film, raising the question of the research methodology of history of the cultural Cold War. Unless the cultural Cold War is simply a term referring to the aspects of the Cold War realized through U.S. cultural and foreign policy, it should have a sense of the question of what can be seen and what can be re-founded through the concept of a cultural Cold War. As many commentators have stated, the Cultural Cold War is an attempt to decentralize the Cold War view centered on the two major powers and centered on government-to-government relations to present a more complex and central Cold War image. In this light, Kim Rye-sil's research is empirically revealing historical facts about the U.S. publicity campaign and the USIS's film policy, but it is believed that it does not go so far as to reveal the multi layered images of the Cold War. On top of Kim Ryeo-sil’s research achievements, this review aims to suggest what points to ponder in the descriptions of the Cold War cultural history.
