본고는 『『오뇌의 무도』주해』(2023)에 대한 서평으로, ‘문헌학적인 탐색’과 ‘주석’에 근거해『오뇌의 무도』가 생성되는 과정을 치밀하게 고찰한 이 책의 의의를 되짚어보고, 주해자의 비평적 고찰을 효과적으로 수정, 보완할 수 있는 일종의 ‘보론’을 제안하는 데 주안점을 두었다. 이러한 맥락에서, 연구자는 우선 김억이 참조했던 여러 일본어 번역본들의 서문 및 역자의 말에 담긴 내용들을 다시 살펴보았으며, 이어서는 서구의 오랜 전통과 낯선 산물들을 받아들이는 과정에서 필연적으로 ‘절충과 굴절’을 경험할 수밖에 없었던 동아시아의 시도들을 전반적으로 파악하는 일환으로,『오뇌의 무도』간행을 전후한 시기 중국과 일본의 베를렌 및 보들레르 수용과 번역을 검토하였다. 또한 주해자의 주석과 해설 등을 폭넓게 보충할 수 있는 방안을 프랑스어 원시 및 원작자의 시세계에 대한 해설과 관련 주석의 소개에서 찾아보았다. 본고는 ‘실체’가 아닌 ‘그림자들’에서 출발해 가야 할 새로운 노정을 만든『오뇌의 무도』와 겹겹이 둘러싸인 많은 베일들을 걷어 올려 마침내 ‘실체’를 한 눈에 조망하는 계기를 만든 이 책의 연구 지평을 넓히기 위한 작은 ‘보론’이다.
Abstract
This article is a critical review of Ku In-Mo’s Annotation of Dance of Agony, published in 2023. We have focused on reflecting on the implications of this book in which the annotator, based on philological research and annotations, closely examines the process of creating of The Dance of Agony and proposing a kind of ‘supplementary argument’ that can effectively correct and supplement the annotator’s critical consideration. In this context, we first reconsidered the prefaces and translator’s remarks of the various Japanese translations referenced by Kim Eok. Next, as part of a general understanding of East Asia’s various attempts, we examine the history of reception and translation of Verlaine and Baudelaire in general. And in order to find ways to broadly supplement the annotators’ notes and commentary, we introduced useful commentary and related annotations on the original text of French poetry and the poet’s poetic world. This article is a small supplement to this book, which created an opportunity to finally see at a glance the reality under many layers of shadows.
