Abstract
In a survey of community hospital, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found to have caused about 10% of all reported infections. This organism has become an important pathogen among hospitalized and immunocompromised patients. A risk of cholangitis and bacteremia by bacterial species including P. aeruginosa has been found in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography associated infections. The sum total of 54 P. aeruginosa strains isolated from 40 patients following endoscope were studied. Biotyping , antibiogram pat terns, and molecular typing of the strains were tested. The genomic DNA fingerprinting of P. aeruginosa for molecular typing has been done using pulsed - field gel electrophore sis(PFGE). From the restriction patterns, seven genotypes of all the strains had caused epidemic infections among 40 patients in relation to the outbreak. The genomic DNA restricted by SpeI yielded 20~25 DNA fragments ranging from 20~910 kb. The profiles of PFGE "A" type were about 70% of 40 patients. The PFGE method of the epidemiologic analyses is very sensitive and efficiency.
