Abstract
In the clinical laboratory Na', K' and Cl are usually determined by using either flam photometry, coulometry or ion-se1ective e1ectrodes. However, These methods require the purchase of a special instrument. Here We evaluated comparison of the ion-selective electrodes and the new enzymatic assays for measuring electrolytes in serums. All electrolytes data using the enyzmetic assay were in good agreement with those by a comparison the ISE method. With two methods the correlation coefficient for Na', K' and Cl was 0.991, 0.988 and 0.971, respectively. For sodium, comparison of two methods showed a slope of 1.00 with an intercept of -2.26. For potassium, comparison of two methods showed a slope of 1.02 with an intercept of -0.10. For chloride, comparison of two methods showed a slope of 1.10 with an intercept of -4.85. Based on the data presented in this study, enzymatic method showed good precision, well correlated with ion-selective electrodes and indicated good linearity clinically useful data over a broad range.
