Abstract
This study is to identify the effects of management initiated social collaborations between social enterprises and traditional organizations such as private, commercial, public or community on social enterprise performance. Social collaborations are classified into ‘philanthropic relationship’ focusing financial supports and ‘strategic collaborative relationship’ which is related to strategic corporate social activities with the business value chain and investment. Based on the empirical analysis of business plans and financial information in domestic social enterprises, the key findings are as follows. First, the philanthropic relationship has no positive impact on social and economic performance of social enterprise. Unlike the expectation, it shows significantly negative effects on economic performance. Second, the strategic collaboration such as strategic social responsibility activities has no influences on social performance, but significantly positive impact on economic performance. This results imply that strategic collaborations linked on business value chain innovation, investment and community involvement strongly contribute on economic performance. This research provides strong evidence that social partnership and collaboration between social enterprise and traditional organizations are critical for sustainable social ecology.
