문화적 세계화와 한국사회의 문화전쟁

본 연구의 목적은 현재 한국사회에서 전통 지향적 우파 세력과 개혁 지향적인 좌파 세력 간에 양심적 병역거부와 동성애 등의 여러 가지 쟁점을 놓고 연속적으 로 문화적 갈등이 일어나고 있는 것과 그 사회적 함의를 최근의 관련 언론 자료들 을 활용하여 체계적으로 밝히는 데 있다. 이 글에서 필자는 그람시의 헤게모니 이 론과 헌터의 문화전쟁 이론에 입각하여 작금의 한국사회에서 일어나고 있는 문화 적 갈등의 본질이, 경제적이고 계급적인 이해관계나 기성세대와 신세대 간의 마찰 이라기보다는 기본적으로 서로 다른 세계관의 싸움으로 볼 수 있다고 논증하였다. 한국사회에서는 현재 세계화의 영향으로 문화체계와 가치체계가 변화의 와중에 있 고, 따라서 계급투쟁 또한 문화 영역에서 일어나고 있다. 즉 전통적 세계관을 고 수하려는 보수세력과 평등지향의 개인주의 세계관을 신봉하는 개혁세력 간의 기득 권 장악을 위한 문화전쟁의 양상을 띠고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.
Abstract
This study is based on two premises. First, there would be a complex relationship among globalization, traditional culture and contemporary culture. Second, cultural conflict is mainly about the struggle for domination. This paper examines the mutual confrontation between cultural conservatives, including such religious groups as Protestant, and cultural liberals, most of whom are non-religious and reform-oriented lefts, within the present turbulent Korean society. Both of two groups are continuously struggling over such issues as conscientious objection against military service, infidelity and homosexuality, traditional family registration and adultery, etc. In this study the author has used a lot of relevant newspaper materials. The main purpose of the study is to show that confronting world-views is not a generational clash but a kind of cultural war into which develops from class struggles among groups, whose economic interests are quite different. By considering the preponderant influence of cultural globalization over Korea at the moment, the author asserts that the secular liberals are attached to such western values as diversity, equality, and human rights, whereas the conservatives to such intrinsic old values as tradition, family, and order, and that these conflicting social values are ideology and faith through which each of two groups gain hegemonic power. Following Hunter's culture wars theory and Gramsci's hegemony theory, the author concludes that there is a definite class struggle ongoing in the sphere of culture within contemporary Korean society.
