Abstract
This research discusses nuclear security policy during the Obama administration and how it factored into the overal nuclear posture of the United States. Contrary to the George W. Bush administration’s nuclear security policy underlining the strategy of eliminating actors carrying or approaching nuclear materials, Obama administration strives to establish ‘a nuclear free world’ by controlling the nuclear material itself, which is located at the supply side of the nuclear terrorism. Furthermore, in the midst of multilateral retrenchment moment, the Obama administration intended to strengthen the international nuclear security architecture to achieve that goal. Statistical analysis demonstrates that such approach of the Obama administration coincides with the international community’s motivation behind establishing nuclear security policy domestically, which pave the way to strengthen the international nuclear security architecture.
