Abstract

In today’s world, with the increasing development of mobile payment services and biometric technologies, there are a number of fingerprint mobile payment services and users in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to categorize the consumer groups with five barriers to innovation in fingerprint mobile payment services. We explore the differences in the consumer groups and investigate the influence on the barriers to innovation within each consumer group. This study conducted an online survey with consumers aged between 20 to 60 years, who did not use any fingerprint mobile payment services. We adopted the SPSS 23.0 statistical software to analyze the data. The data were analyzed with a descriptive analysis, K-means cluster analysis, factor analysis, Chi-square test, ANOVA, and multi-nominal logistic regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, the consumer groups were categorized into three groups: innovation barriers accepter, innovation barriers perceptioner, and innovation resister. Second, performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and self-efficacy were higher in the innovation barriers accepter consumer group. Third, affective inertia and cognitive inertia were higher in the innovation resister consumer group. Fourth, higher trust and self-efficacy, and lower affective inertia consumers are more likely in a group of innovation barriers accepter. Fifth, lower effort expectancy and higher effective/cognitive inertia consumers are likely in a group of innovation resister in fingerprint mobile payment services.
