초록

This study attempts to explore possibilities of enhancing pragmatic competence through the development of intuition for the cooperative principles for specific communicative situations. EFL learners occasionally experience difficulties in acquiring the adequate pragmatic competence with which the learners are expected to communicate and behave appropriately in specific contexts. Moreover, it has been constantly shown that, even after skills and knowledge of pragmatic competence are obtained, a timely and relevant application of the skills remain problematic in many cases. One of the reasons for this problem has been claimed to be the lack of intuition, which is believed to enable language speakers to make inductive and insightful decisions on the use of skills according to the communicative conditions encountered. In this study, pragmatic competence for a specific situation has been instructed through movies and role plays with the aim of developing intuition for cooperative principles. Evaluation matrix for situation-specific intuition was proposed for possibilities of further use in other domains of cognitive skill development.
