Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) is widely discussed as one of the essential business strategies for the company’s continuous growth. In this study we examined that the consumers’ trust play an essential role in the relationship between the five dimensions(economic, legal-ethical, environmental, and philanthropic) of CSR activities and the consumer loyalty and purchase intention. Trust is conceptualized into two different types: cognitive trust and affective trust. A model integrating five dimensions of CSR, two types of trust, and consumer loyalty and purchase intention is tested using data of 306 young consumers. The findings of this study are as follows. First, the corporate economic responsibility positively influences on the cognitive trust. However, the corporate legal, the corporate ethical, the corporate environmental, and the corporate philanthropic responsibility have a significant impact on the affective trust. Second, the cognitive trust and the affective trust both have a significant influence on the consumer loyalty and on the purchase intention. Thus, this study demonstrates that trust indeed plays a mediating role between CSR and the consumer loyalty and the purchase intention.
