본 소고는 갈라디아서에서 지배적인 아브라함의 이미지가 바울과 갈라디아 공동체와 갈라디아 공동체의 대적자들의 삼자 간 역학 관계 속에서 어떠한 의미를 갖고 어떠한 사회적 기능을 수행하는 지를 규명하려는 사회 과학적 시도이다. 바울의 대적자들은 할례의 언약을 요구하기 위해 창세기17 장을 중심으로 아브라함의 이미지를 제시했다. 반면에, 바울은 그리스도의 희생을 통하여 저주의 언약에 참여시키기 위해 창세기15장1-21절을 중심으로 아브라함의 이미지를 제시했다. 창세기15 장과17 장에 담겨 있는 언약들의 특징과 내용 간의 근본적인 차이들에 대한 인식을 갈라디아서에서 추적할 수 있다. 연속성과 비 연속성의 정도가 두 언약의 페리코프들간의 관계성을 결정하는 데 매우 중요하다. 이러한 이미지들을 통하여 바울은 할례가 인의 의표지가 아니며 아브라함의 약속의 표지도 아님을 지적했다. 반면에, 바울은 저주의 언약이 인의 의표지이며 아브라함의 약속의 표지임을 주장했다.바울은 갈라디아 공동체멤버들이 저주의 언약을 통하여 아브라함의 복과 아브라함의 자손들과 그리고 아브라함의 약속의 대상이 될 수 있었음을 천명했다. 바울은 대적자들이 사용한 동일한 방법을 통하여 다른복음에 동조한 갈라디아 공동체멤버들을 바울이 처음에 전한 복음의 자리로 옮기도록 설득하였다.
Abstract
This paper is a social scientific attempt to investigate the meanings and the social functions of the image of Abraham that is dominant in Galatians, and to articulate upon how it was interpreted in the interplay of Paul, the Galatian community, and the opponents of the Galatian community. Paul’s opponents suggested the image of Abraham in Genesis 17 as an example in order to support the covenant of circumcision. However, Paul presented the image of Abraham in Genesis 15:1-21 in order to support the fact that everyone participates in the covenant of the curse through the sacrifice of Christ. The recognition of fundamental differences between the nature and content of the covenants in Genesis 15 and 17 can be traced in Galatians. Clearly the degree of continuity and discontinuity is important for determining the relationship between the two covenants pericopes. In this presentation Paul argued that circumcision was neither a sign of justification nor a sign of the promise of Abraham. Instead he claimed that the covenant of the curse is a sign of justification and the promise of Abraham. Paul argued that the Galatian members could be the object of the blessings of Abraham, sons of Abraham, and joint heirs in the promise of Abraham through the covenant of the curse. In essense, Paul persuaded the Galatian members of the different gospel to transfer in his gospel through the same methods that his opponents used
