Abstract

From the cradle of Jesus to the tomb, and even after the resurrection, the disciples who walked with him and participated in the ministry of the kingdom of God to the end were “women.” In the Gospels, their discipleship is not well represented, but it is greatly emphasized in the scenes of Jesus' passion, cross, empty tomb and resurrection. The female disciples commonly revealed in these scenes are Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Jesus. The unique characters that are selected in the Gospels are as follows: Salome in the Mark, who may be either a sister of Jesus or a midwife according to the traditions of the other sources, the mother of Zebedee's sons in Matthew, who has accompanied Jesus from Galilee, seeing the true Messiah in Jesus' crucifixion. Joanna of Luke is a noble class, a patron who materially helped Jesus' ministry from Galilee, and Mary of Clopas in John who is Jesus' aunt and her son is Simeon, the second head of the Jerusalem Church. Then, why are the female disciples chosen in the last and important scene of Jesus' ministry? Because their social and political position as the weak and their pure faith were most suitable for discipleship in the kingdom of God, which is completely different from this world.
