기독교 대학의 채플 개선방향 연구 - 한신대학교 채플을 중심으로 -

본 논문은 한신대 채플 참가자의 만족도를 조사하고, 그 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요소가 무엇인지를 분석한 연구다. 많은 기독교 대학에서 채플은 의무사항이고, 기독교 대학 채플 관계자들은 학생들의 채플 만족도, 특별히 비기독교 학생들의 채플 만족도 향상을 위한 프로그램 개발에 노력하고 있 다. 오늘날 대학생들이 지닌 가치관을 분류하자면 다원성, 단독성(개인주 의), 소비주의 등을 들 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 경향들에서 드러나는 공통적 인 특징이 있는데 그것은 바로 종교적 무관심이다. 종교적 무관심은 현재 기독교 대학들이 직면한 채플의 위기와 연관이 있다. 이러한 현실은 대학채 플을 섬기는 이들에게 다음과 같은 질문을 던진다:“대학채플의 장애요인은 무엇인가?”, “어떻게 하면 대학채플이 새로운 세대에 맞게 변화할 수 있을 까?” 위 질문들에 답하기 위해 나는 한신대 채플에 참여한 850명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 논문은 현재 한신대에서 실시하는 다양한 형태의 채플에 관하여 조사하고 연구한 결과를 기초로 하고 있다. 한신대는 2015년부터 70%에 가까운 비기독교인 학생들을 위한 다양한 형태의 채플을 시도하고 있다. 새로운 형식의 채플이 학생들에게 어떻게 다가가고 있고, 이를 토대로 앞으로의 채플을 상상하는 것이 본 논문의 중요한 과제라 할수 있다. 결론적으로 이 연구를 통해 깨달은 점이 있다면 채플에 대한 새로운 방향 설정이 중요하다는 것이다. 기독교 대학 채플은 시대변화에 따른 청년들의 필요에 효과적으로 적절히 대응하지 못했다. 여전히 교리적이고, 문화적 배 제주의를 고수하고 있다는 말이다. 본 논문은 채플이 지니고 있는 현재 문제 점을 인지하고, 변화하는 시대에 맞는 채플의 새로운 방향을 놓고 고민하는 이들에게 생각할 거리를 제공할 것이다.
Abstract
The study surveys students’ satisfaction with Hanshin University chapel, and analyzes factors which influence their satisfaction. Chapel is required at many Christian universities. Staff at Christian universities have been trying to develop new chapel programs to enhance the satisfaction of the chapel ex- perience for students, especially focusing on non-christian students. Students’ values today included the following: diversity, individualism, and consumerism. Generally todays’ students share an indifference to religious faith. For this reason, Christian university chapel is in crisis. This important questions need to be taken into account: “What are the obstacles to a pos- itive university chapel experience for the future generation?” “How can uni- versity chapel change its culture to accomodate the new generation?” In or- der to answer these questions, we surveyed about 850 Hanshin University students at chapel. This article has come to some findings on the basis of these surveys and which also sought student responses to various types of chapel. Hanshin started this program since 2015. Since approximately 70% of new students seems to be classified as non-Christians, Hanshin has tried vari- ous types of chapel, such as talk concert, music chapel, English chapel, and logos chapel. What I’ve learned through this research was that it is important to estab- lish a new strategy. Christian university chapel and the Korean church have failed to respond effectively to the shift from modernism to postmodernism, from analog method to a digital one. They hold to old paradigms such as dogmatism and cultural exclusivism. This study hopes to help readers recog- nize the problems that chapels face, and take into account change and new demand of students. We hope it will contribute to finding a new theory and a new direction forming for chapel.
