Abstract
The purpose of this article is to establish the structure of the Secondary Narratvie (1 Chronicles ~ Esther) in the Old Testament and to prove the compositional function of the storytelling technique. After the Primary Narrative (Genesis ~ 2 Kings), which falls into the largest category in the Hebrew Bible, the Secondary Narrative (1 Chronicles ~ Esther) was described based on the time of Babylonian captivity. In the Greek Bible (LXX), the Secondary Narrative consists of a total of five books, from 1 Chronicler to Esther, and consists of 10 units and five themes in the chiastic pattern (ABCDEE´D´C´B´A´). Subjectively, this includes the return(recovery) of prisoners (A), death(dismiss) and rule (B), Jerusalem and reform (C), threat to Jerusalem (D), return list of Jerusalem (E), The Edict of Cyrus, prisoner return list (E´), return to Jerusalem (D´), Jerusalem and reform (C´), abdication(dismiss) and throne (B´), salvation(recovery) (A´) of Judahites. Using this chiastic pattern with storytelling, they correspond to the Beginning (1 Chronicles), Development (2 Chronicles), Crisis (Ezra), Climax (Nehemiah), and End (Esther). While the Chronicler’s History is claimed to be four books (1 Chronicles ~ Nehemiah), the Secondary Narrative should be five books, including the book of Esther. Starting with the restoration of the returning community after the capture of Babylonian, the Secondary Narrative shows that it is the role of rebuilding by overcoming the records of King David and King Solomon and the obstruction of the construction of the temple, and ultimately informing the message of salvation to the people of Judah in the book of Esther through reading the book of Law by Ezra and repentance and confession of the people.
