본 연구는 프리드리히 슐라이어마허의 역사 및 종교 이해를 중심으로 그리스도교 교양 교육이 역사 의식 함양 및 발전에 어떻게 기여할 수 있는지를 고찰한다. 슐라이어마허는 인간을 최고선의 개진을 서술하는 역사 속에 존재하는 실존으로 바라보고 그의 의미가 역사 전체의 조망을 통해서 개진된다고 보았다. 종교는 삶 전체에 대한 깊은 수용이다. 이 수용은 타자의 개성과 고유성을 인정하고 존중할 수 있는 근거가 되며 자기 중심성의 한계를 비판하고 공동체적 연대를 촉진한다. 특히 슐라이어마허는 그리스도교가 나사렛 예수를 중심으로 한 자기비움의 삶을 제시함으로써 기존의 폐쇄적 역사 인식을 넘어 소외된 타자들과 함께 새로운 역사를 써나가는 가능성을 열어준다고 본다. 이러한 통찰은 그리스도교 교양 교육이 성서를 타자와 함께 살아가는 윤리적 삶의 이야기로 조망하도록 하고 학생들의 역사적 감수성을 함양하며 타자와 더불어 살아가는 삶을 지향하는데 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study examines how Christian liberal arts education can contribute to the cultivation and development of historical consciousness, focusing on Friedrich Schleiermacher's understanding of history and religion. Schleiermacher viewed the human being as an existential subject situated within history, whose meaning unfolds through the pursuit of the highest good within a broader historical horizon. Religion, in his view, is a deep receptivity to life as a whole. Such receptivity forms the basis for recognizing and respecting the uniqueness and individuality of others, thereby challenging self-centeredness and promoting communal solidarity. In particular, Schleiermacher saw Christianity as presenting, through the life of Jesus of Nazareth, a self-emptying mode of existence that opens possibilities for writing a new history together with marginalized others, beyond closed and exclusive historical perspectives. These insights suggest that Christian liberal arts education can reinterpret Scripture as a narrative of ethical life with others, fostering students’ historical sensitivity and encouraging a way of life oriented toward solidarity with the other.
