본 논문은 AI 시대를 맞아 기독교 대학 교양교육의 혁신 방안으로 관상적 교수법의 이론적ㆍ실천적 가능성을 예비적으로 고찰한다. 인공지능의 급속한 발전은 인간의 존엄성과 자율성, 전인적 성장에 대한 교육적 성찰을 요구하며, 이에 따라 단순한 지식 전달을 넘어 자기성찰과 내면 탐구를 중시하는 교수법의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 미국 등에서 학문적 기반을 확립해온 관상적 교수법이 학습자의 내적 성찰과 전인적 성장, 창의성 함양에 기여할 수 있음을 이론적으로 분석하고, 이를 한국 기독교 대학 교양교육에 적용할 가능성을 탐색하였다. 관상적 교수법은 3인칭⋅1인칭 학습법의 통합을 통해 학습자의 주체적 탐구와 인격적 성숙을 도모하며, AI 시대에도 인간 고유의 가치와 역량을 강화하는 대안적 교육 모델로서의 의의를 지닌다. 또한 교수자의 영성 역량, 평가 체계 등 현실적 과제와 윤리적 쟁점도 함께 논의하였다. 본 연구는 기독교 대학이 시대적 변화 속에서도 교육의 본질을 지키며 미래 인재를 양성할 수 있는 새로운 교양교육의 방향성을 제안한다.
Abstract
This study explores the theoretical and practical potential of contemplative pedagogy as an innovative approach to Christian liberal arts education in the age of Artificial Intelligence. The rapid advancement of AI technology raises fundamental questions about human dignity, autonomy, and holistic growth, demanding educational methods that go beyond knowledge transmission to emphasize self-reflection and inner exploration. Drawing on recent developments in contemplative studies, particularly in the United States, this research analyzes how contemplative pedagogy-centered on first-person experiential learning-can foster students’ self-reflection, self-awareness, holistic development, and creativity. The study examines the epistemological foundations and educational implications of contemplative pedagogy, and assesses its applicability within the context of Korean Christian universities. By integrating third-person and first-person learning approaches, contemplative pedagogy aims to cultivate autonomous inquiry and personal maturity, offering an alternative educational model that strengthens uniquely human values and capacities in the AI era. The paper also addresses practical challenges, such as the spiritual competence of instructors and the development of appropriate assessment systems. Ultimately, this research proposes a new direction for Christian liberal arts education, enabling Christian universities to maintain their educational essence and nurture future leaders amid rapid societal change.
