이 글은 서구는 물론 제3세계 학자들 사이에서 유행처럼 번지고 있는 그러면서도 각종 담론을 통해 끊임없이 (재)구성되고 있는 디아스포라 개념/논의에 대한 관심을 바탕으로, 디아스포라 논의의 연장이자 일례로서 중국-조선족 연구자들의 디아스포라 문학비평에 주목하였다. 이 글의 목적은 디아스포라 문제를 천착하고 있는 중국-조선족 문학비평을 통해, 담론을 통한 조선족의 ‘디아스포라 되기’ 시도가 갖는 의미와 디아스포라/민족의 역학이 갖는 분절과 통합의 의미를 규명하는 데 있다. 텍스트 분석은 두 가지 선행 작업을 토대로 이루어질 것이며, 이때 선행 작업은 첫째, 실체로서의 ‘디아스포라/디아스포라적 현상’에서부터 인식론적 도구로서의 이른바 ‘디아스포라적 사유’에 이르기까지 그간의 디아스포라 관련 연구의 동향 및 특질을 검토하는 일, 둘째 중국-조선족 사회에 디아스포라 개념 및 논의가 유입, 활용될 수 있었던 배경을 짚어보는 일을 일컫는다. 이 글은 개혁·개방 이후 세계 학계의 변화 및 유행에 민감하게 대응하고 있는 최근의 중국-조선족 문학비평에 관한, 나아가 디아스포라를 일종의 개념어나 방법론으로 활용하고 있는 담론 일반에 관한 메타비평적 시론이라 할 수 있다. 이 글이 시도하고 있는, 중국-조선족 디아스포라 문학비평의 성격과 논의의 궤적을 살피는 작업은 텍스트의 이면을 가로지르는 비평가들의 무/의식적 욕망을 탐문하는 일이 될 것이며, 한편으로는 개념어나 방법론으로서의 ‘디아스포라’가 갖는 의미를 재고해 보는 기회가 될 것이다.
Abstract
Based on the interest in the diaspora concept/discussion that is spreading like a fad among scholars of the Third World, not to mention the West, and is being continuously reconstructed through various discourses, this paper pays attention to the diaspora literary criticism of ethnic Korean scholars in China as an extension and an example of the diaspora discussion. The objective of this paper is to examine the meaning of the ethnic Koreans’ attempt through discourse “to become a diaspora” and the significance of the segmentation and integration inherent in the dynamism of diaspora/ethnic group. The text analysis will be based on two types of preliminary work: the first is reviewing the tendencies and characteristics of previous diaspora-related studies, ranging from the “diaspora/diaspora phenomenon” as an entity to the epistemological tool of “diaspora thinking”; the second is examining the background in which the diaspora concept and discussion was brought in and applied to the ethnic Korean community in China. This paper can be viewed as a meta-critical essay on the latest literary criticism of ethnic Koreans in China which sensitively deal with the changes and trends of world’s academic community after the reform and open-up policy, as well as on the general discourse that uses diaspora as a type of conceptual language or methodology. The work of examining the characteristics of the diaspora literary criticism of ethnic Koreans in China and the trajectory of its discussion, as attempted by this paper, will become a task of learning about the critics’ conscious and unconscious desires traversing inside the text. It will also become an opportunity to reconsider the significance of diaspora as a concept or a methodology.
