‘-군-’(한군데)의 형태소 정립을 위한 시론- 방언은 이에 어떻게 기여하는가? -

Abstract

The main purpose of the present paper is to identify a form ‘-gun-’ in the contemporary Korean as shown in ‘hangunde(한군데), gundegunde(군데군데)’. To analysis this ‘-gun-’ as a single grammatical unit synchronically is very hard, and we can not find out its meaning in Modern Korean dictionaries.But as there exists ‘hangunjari(한군자리)’, which means ‘the same place’, in Kyungnam regional dialect, we think ‘-gun-’ is analyzed as a morpheme. At the same time, we can analogize the meaning of ‘-gun-’ is “to restrict a certain concrete place.” Because the ‘-gun-’ is located before noun such as ‘(hangun)de, (hangun)jari,’ it is a modifying unit in consideration of its distribution. One possibility of the origin of ‘-gun-’ is that it is a combined form of a verb ‘gul-(굴-)’ and an adnominal ending ‘-eun(-은).’Though the identity of ‘-gun-’ is revealed as ‘gul-’ plus ‘-eun,’ it is controversial in contemporarily and synchronically whether we assume it as two morphemes. The reason why it is so that if we introduce the diachronic or etymological comment excessively in analyzing this problem on synchronic level, we cannot but face some gaps between the general recognition of public Koreans and etymological facts.We believe that a morpheme is closely connected with meaning, and it is defined as “the unit which is analytic and the remaining form except it in lexical items,” so we've concluded the ‘-gun-’ is one morpheme synchronically in itself.
