초록
What is ‘love’? The term ‘love’ has been used in almost limitlessly in almost all contexts with an infinite variation of meaning. Since the 12th century, many scholars have looked at ways to determine the true meaning of ‘love’ through taxonomy despite the chaos of the various meanings. Inparticular, there have been many studies on the taxonomy of romantic love in the British-American language sphere during the late 20th century and various theories have been proposed. Among them, this study particularly investigates John Allen Lee’s Love Typology, in which Lee proposes nine love styles. This study at tempted to verify the feasibility of his theory by applying his love typology to the Russian writer Anton Chekhov(1860-1904). The results found that the character types that best match the nine love styles areas follows: 1) Agape - Анюта in 「Анюта」(1899)2) Ludic Eros - Мария Должикова in 「Моя жизнь」(1866)3) Mania - Иван Шамохин in 「Ариадна」(1895)4) Storge - Оленька Семеновна in 「Душечка」(1899)5) Pragma - Софья Львовна in 「Володя большой и Володя маленький」 (1893)6) Storgic Ludus - Дмитрий Гуров in 「Дама с собачкой」(1899)7) Ludus - Ариадна Григорьевна in 「Ариадна」(1895)8) Eros - Лаптев in 「Три года」(1894)9) Storgic Eros - Юлия Сергеевна in 「Три года」(1894) Anton Chekhov is a writer who described various human patterns in ‘life as it is’ through his approximately 600 writings. Because of this large body of work, this study was able to discover the character types that conform to John Lee’s Love Typology. As a result, this study confirms Anton Chekhov’s greatness as a writer from a psychological and life observer’s perceptions.
Abstract
