전통 독서법에 대한 퇴계의 인식

Abstract

Toegye's reading method contains various Confucian theories because he gathered the Confucian theories in his theory on reading method. Especially, he extracted the pleasure of reading and its practical plan, and the principles of reading method from Gongmeng. From Lee Jung-Ja and Jangja, he extracted the purpose of reading, that is, In(仁). Among a lot of Confucian scholars, he was strongly influenced by Juja. Thus he extracted a cultivating method, a reading method, and a purpose of reading in originating a unified system of reading method. However, he did not meant to accept Juja's reading method unconditionally. Unlike Juja who did not admit Yibal(理發), Toegye admitted Yibal, mentioning that it is Virtue of nature that makes the mind alive. In this respect, it is possible to say that he tried to establish the common good in social dimension from the perspective of Uirihak(義理學). Accepting and traditional reading methods with Uirihak and creating new reading method, he tried to establish the common good in social dimension. Therefore, Toegye is a scholar who realized Uirihak, rather than a follower of Juja.
