본 연구는 김익동의 시 속에 담긴 지향의식을 학문, 한거, 이별을 제재로 나누어 살펴보았다. 첫째, 학문을 대하는 직재의 의식적 측면이다. 직재는 학문에 있어 늘 위기지학을 그 시작에 두어 이를 실천하는 데 힘썼다. 위기지학은 그의 시를 통해 학문의 본질과 방법, 그리고 그 실천의 독려로 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 한거의 공간을 통해서 나타난 직재의 의식적 면모이다. 직재가 보인 한거의 의취는 수기의 공간으로 자리잡고 있어 현실을 떠난 은일자와는 그 결을 달리하고 있다. 그의 탈속적 면모는 세상과의 조우뿐만 아니라 때로는 초월적 한거의 모습으로 나타난다는 특징을 보이고 있다. 셋째, 만시를 통해 드러난 이별에 대한 직재의 인식이다. 직재의 이별에는 생자(生者) 보다는 사자(死者)를 위한 이별시인 만시가 주가 된다. 그의 만시에는 비탄의 정서를 안으로 절제하여 끌어안고 있는 모습이다. 이는 사자와의 관계성에 초점을 두고 있기 때문으로, 학문을 통한 동지적(同志的) 결속이 그의 만시에도 투과되어 나타난 것이다.
Abstract
This study examined the sense of orientation contained in Kim Ik-dong’s poem by dividing it into study, leisure, and parting. First, it is the conscious aspect of Jik-jae(直齋) that deals with learning. Jik-jae always put studies for self-discipline(爲己之學) at the beginning of his studies and worked hard to put it into practice. Studies for self-discipline appears through his poems as the the essence of learning, method, and encouragement of its practice. Second, it is the conscious aspect of Jik-jae that appears through leisure. The leisure consciousness shown by Jik-jae is different from those who left reality because it is positioned as a space for reflection. His leisure aspect is characterized not only by encounters with the world, but also by appearing almost transcendent at times. Third, it is the perception of parting that is revealed through a poem of mourning. The poem he mourns is for the dead rather than the living. In his poem, he is embracing the emotion of grief inwardly. This is because it focuses on the relationship with the dead, and the camaraderie solidarity through learning has also been penetrated into his poems.
