Abstract
This study investigates how advanced Korean language learners utilize online learning tools in their writing practices and explores their perceptions of these tools through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A survey was conducted with 40 advanced learners, followed by in-depth interviews with five selected participants. The findings reveal that learners generally perceive online tools—such as Naver Dictionary, Papago, and ChatGPT—as effective supports for vocabulary retrieval, time efficiency, and idea generation. Notably, advanced learners tended to critically assess and revise the outputs generated by the tools, demonstrating a strong preference for feedback from human instructors. These results suggest that the educational application of AI-based tools requires instructional design that respects learners’ judgment, encourages self-directed revision, and fosters cognitive engagement. This study highlights the practical implications and challenges of incorporating AI tools into Korean writing instruction and offers foundational insights for educators, curriculum designers, and system developers. Future research should expand to include learners of varying proficiency levels and explore instructional case studies and experimental designs to assess the pedagogical impact of AI-assisted writing.
