동아시아의 『춘희』 번역 양상 비교 연구 - 후쿠나가 반카(福永挽歌), 진학문, 린수(林紓)의 번역을 중심으로

이 논문은 『춘희』의 동아시아 번역 양상과 성격을 고찰했다. 먼저 진학문이 번역한 『홍루』의 저본이 후쿠나가 반카의 일역본이라는 사실을 밝히고, 두 번역본을 비교하여 진학문 번역의 특징을 규명했다. 진학문은 화자의 생각이나 주변 인물에 대한 장황한 묘사를 삭제했으나 서구적 사랑 및 그 행위적 실천을 그대로 번역했다. 진학문은 사랑에 수반한 복잡한 감정을 성실하게 번역했는데, 특히 여주인공에 대한 동정의 감정에 주목하여 동정 어린 사랑의 감정을 한국 독자들에게 보여주었다. 이를 통해 진학문은 한국 독자에게 낯선 서구적 사랑을 재현할 수 있었다. 한편 프랑스 원작을 저본으로 삼아 번역한 린수는 사랑에 수반한 감정과 심리의 변화를 삭제함으로써 사랑의 순수성을 드러내는 데 주의를 기울였다. 린수는 남녀 주인공의 계급적 차이를 완화하고 중국의 전통적 ‘정’의 개념으로 원작에 나타난 실현 불가능한 사랑을 일반 남녀 간의 사랑 이야기로 제시했다. 린수는 원작의 허구적 등장인물인 화자를 원작자로 바꿈으로써 원작자가 직접 중국 독자에게 이야기를 들려주는 효과를 노렸다. 이는 독자들로 하여금 이 사랑 이야기가 실제로 생긴 일이며, 자기 주변에도 일어날 가능성이 있다고 상상하게 만들었다.
Abstract
This paper examines the East Asia translation patterns and characteristics of The Lady of the Camellias (La Dame aux Camélias). First, it reveals that Jin Hak-mun’s Korean translation Hongnu was based on Fukunaga Banka’s Japanese translation. By comparing the two translations, the study identifies the distinctive features of Jin Hak-mun’s translation. Jin Hak-mun deleted the narrator’s thoughts or the lengthy descriptions of secondary characters, but translated Western romantic love and its behavioral practices as they were. Jin Hak-mun faithfully translated the complex emotions involved in love, especial focusing on the feelings of sympathy for the heroine and showing the sympathetic feelings of love to Korean readers. Through this, Jin Hak-mun was able to reproduce the Western love that was unfamiliar to Korean readers. Meanwhile, Lin Shu, who translated the French original text, paid attention to revealing the purity of love by deleting the emotional and psychological changes that accompany love. Lin Shu alleviated the class difference between the male and female protagonists and presented the impossible love that appeared in the original as a love story between an ordinary man and woman, using the traditional Chinese affection. Lin Shu sought the effect of the original author directly telling the story to Chinese readers by changing the narrator, a fictional character in the original, to the original author. This made readers imagine that this love story actually happened and that it could happen around them.
