Abstract

Sukcheon Lim eok ryung was the person who lived in the period which was entangled with a massacre of scholars caused by conflicts between scholar factions and powerful relative families of queens. Sukcheon became continually involved in politics under the political circumstance like this. It was derived from unique attitude of reality confrontation. Sukcheon's attitude of reality confrontation is 'hwa-i-bul-ryu'(和而不流). It means an attitude of life which doesn't escape the reality and keep his own philosophy uprightly, recognizing the reality as injustice. Orange's image, often used in many of his works with special position, shows attitude for reality confrontation intensively. Orange's image, quoted in the Koolwon's poem(<橘頌>), is reviewed as having talent and virtue such as integrity of root, purity of leaf and flower, force of branch, literature of fruit. While orange, lied in the middle of reality, keeps the character of not losing the talent and virtue, an maehwa blossom and bamboo tree keep the nobility and integrity away from reality. After all, Sukcheon's poetry put his posture of life into orange's image which kept purity and integrity, enduring the realistic rebuke in the circumstance of political reality. Because attitude of reality confrontation as above was filled with his inside, Sukcheon, longing for homecoming consistently, didn't leave the political reality and dare to go into government service after the Ul-sa- sa-hwa(乙巳士禍).
