초록
Phorate is one of the most widely used granular pesticides applied to soil in Korea. However, due to its characteristic of increased toxicity as it metabolizes, there is a need for further research on the behavior of its metabolites, which is currently insufficient. To prevent cases of non-compliance in agricultural products and to mitigate pesticide runoff into the environment, an accurate study of its fate is essential. This study analyzed the half-lives, physicochemical properties, and heavy metal content of soils collected from three agricultural sites in Korea, using these factors to assess the residue patterns of phorate and its metabolites. Results from a laboratory soil persistence test showed that while the parent compound of phorate rapidly metabolizes, its metabolites, such as phorate-sulfoxide and phorate-sulfone, were observed to increase. Additionally, different half-life patterns were identified in soils with varying physicochemical properties and heavy metal contents, suggesting that factors such as clay content and saturation influence the degradation rates of phorate.
