자유주의 도덕교육과 권위주의 도덕교육 사이의 제3의 접근

초록
오늘날의 세계는 지식정보화 사회라고 부르기도 한다. 산업사회 시대인 19세기에 지식은 분류(classification)에 관한 것이었다면 21세기에 지식은 상호 연관성(connection)에 관한 것이다. 이 처럼 변화된 환경에서 어떻게 도덕교육을 시켜야 할 것인가에 대한 과제에 우리는 봉착하게 된다. 그 동안 도덕교육의 방법에서 크게 자유주의의 도덕교육과 권위주의의(보수적 공동체주의의) 도덕교육이 대립하여 왔다고 볼 수 있다. 권위주의의 도덕교육 옹호자들이 보기에 자유주의 도덕교육은 구체적인 덕목과 가치들을 소홀히 하고 공허한 말장난으로 끝날 수 있으며, 도덕적 행동을 담보하지 못한다는 비판을 받고 있다. 권위주의 도덕교육의 옹호자들은 근원적인 가치나 존재에 대해 끊인 없는 의문을 품는다면 우리 사회가 의존하고 있는 가치들을 급기야 훼손한다고 본다.그 동안의 도덕교육은 자유주의와 권위주의 도덕교육 중의 어느 하나를 선택하여 실시함으로써 도덕교육의 성과를 거두기가 어렵다는 것을 이론적으로나 실천적인 측면에서 어느 정도 입증되었 다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 자유주의 도덕교육과 권위주의 도덕교육의 핵심적인 내용들과 각각이 지니고 있는 문제점과 약점을 살펴볼 것이다. 그런 후에 양 접근 사이의 문제를 보완한다는 측면에서 제 3의 방안을 탐구하는 데 본 연구의 목적이 있다고 할 수 있다.[주제어] 도덕공동체, 자유주의, 권위주의, 공동체주의, 도덕교육, 인격교육
