스피노자는 심신관계에서 상호간의 인과성이나 어느 하나의 우월성을 인정하지 않는다. 그는 동일한 실체의 평행한 속성이라는 이중적 측면에서 심신관계를 이해한다. 이러한 그의 심신 이중측면론은 형이상학적 체계인 실체 일원론과 속성 이원론에 근거한다. 이에 근거한 심신론은 감정에서 구체화된다. 그의 감정론에서 정신과 신체라는 평행한 속성의 양태는 실재하는 사람의 감정이라는 지속적 사건에서 만난다. 지속적 사건으로서 감정은 수동적 감정과 능동적 감정으로 구분된다. 자연의 일부로서 사람이 수동적 감정에 예속되는 것은 불가피하지만, 그 예속이 필연적인 것은 아니다. 감정 및 그 원인에 대한 타당한 관념을 통해 수동적 감정은 보다 능동적인 감정으로 대체될 수 있다. 이를 시도하는 도덕과수업은 사람이 외부 원인의 영향에 노출되어 있다는 것을 인정하면서, 수동적 감정을 대체하기 위해 그 감정과 상반되는 감정의 형성에 초점을 둔다.
Abstract
In mind-body theory, Spinoza does not admit mutual causality or superiority of either side. He understands the mind-body relationship from the double aspect that refers to the parallel attributes of identical substance. Mind-body double aspect theory is based on his metaphysical system of substance monism and attribute dualism. According to this, the event that the mind-body theory is brought into shape is affect. In his affect theory, the mode of parallel attributes as mind and body appears in affect as durational event. Affect as durational event can be divided into passive affect and active affect. It is inevitable that human as a part of nature is subordinate to passive affect; however, the subordination is not always necessary. Passive affect can be replaced by active affect through the proper awareness of affect and its cause. The moral lesson that tries this replacement focuses on forming the opposite affect to replace passive affect, acknowledging that human is exposed to the influence of external factors.
