도덕적 지식과 도덕성 발달의 관계: 스피노자적 관점

이 글의 목적은 스피노자의 존재 이해와 선악 개념을 바탕으로 도덕성의 존재 방식 및 도덕적 지식의 성격을 파악하는 데 있다. 선악 개념을 새롭게 규정하는 스피노자에 의하면, 선악은 본성에 붙박혀 있는 신성(神性)을 실현하려는 욕망(cupiditas)을 지닌 인간의 방편이다. 이때의 선(도덕적 지식)은 신에 대한 앎을 의미하며, 이것의 획득은 직관지의 자각에 의해 가능하다. 즉, 형이상학적 성격의 도덕적 지식은 직관지를 의미하는 것이다. 스피노자에 의하면, 신적 본성의 필연성에 의해 결정된 존재로서의 인간은 각자 도덕적 지식을 획득한 수준에서 선을 욕망하며, 이 욕망이 곧 한 인간의 존재 방식이다. 이 점에서, 도덕적 지식(직관지)은 인지, 정의, 행동을 포괄하는 하나의 총체로서의 도덕성을 의미하는 것이며, 이 총체로서의 도덕성은 지식의 교육을 통해 발달 가능하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to understand the morality and the nature of moral knowledge based on the understanding of Spinoza's existence and the concept of good and evil. According to Spinoza's understanding of existence, the concept of good and evil as an objective reality is nothing more than a fiction. The way of existence of good and evil in his original form, understood by him, is understood in terms of human means with the desire to contemplate the world as it is and to realize the divinity. At this time, good as a means points knowledge of God, and moral knowledge can be said to be transcendent and metaphysical in this sense. From the point of view of Spinoza, the moral knowledge of metaphysical nature can be acquired because man, who is the outcome of God, possesses 'scientia intuitiva'. Since knowledge is accompanied by desire, human beings can say that they do good as they are aware of moral knowledge. In this respect, we can confirm that morality is not really separated into the domains of cognition, emotion, and behavior.
