본 연구는 소크라테스의 교육 방법을 학교의 도덕 수업에 적용해보는 것이다. 이 일을 함에 있어서 본 연구는 먼저 소크라테스 교육방법의 중요한 특징과 원리들을 알아본다. 그것들은 학습동기 유발 방법, 학습자의 수준에 맞는 대화, 배후 지식의 준비와 논리적 가정의 조사, 일상생활의 예화 사용, 도덕적 사고력의 육성, 대화 규칙의 사용, 영혼의 보살핌의 일곱 가지로 정리될 수 있다. 그리고 실제로 초등학교와 중등학교별로 도덕 수업을 하는 예시를 제공한다. 여기에서 소크라테스의 교육방법은 도덕적 사고를 깊이 있게 하여 학생들의 자율적 도덕성을 개발하는 데 매우 효과적인 방법임을 설명한다. 물론 사회의 규범을 직접적으로 가르치는 교수 방법이 전혀 불필요한 것은 아니다. 어린 아이들에게 도덕적 습관을 길러주거나 훈화가 필요한 경우도 있을 것이다. 교사들은 소크라테스 교육방법의 장점과 단점에 유의하여 그것을 학생들의 도덕교육에 적절하게 잘 활용할 수 있도록 연구하고 노력하여야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to apply Socratic method to moral education in schools. For this purpose, first of all, the study identified 7 principles of Socratic method for applying to moral education in schools. They are 1) inducing learning motivation, 2) considering interlocutor's level of understanding, 3) preparing background knowledge and identifying presuppositions, 4) using examples of everyday life, 5) deepening moral thinking, 6) using dialogue's rules, 7) caring interlocutor's soul. Next, the study showed examples of teaching in moral subjects applying these principles of Socratic method. Finally, the study identified strengths and weaknesses of Socratic method with relation to moral education in schools. Socratic method is very effective in cultivating student's autonomous morality by deepening moral thinking. But also teaching social norms by admonition is sometimes needed to students in elementary and secondary schools. Therefore, teachers should always consider the advantages and limitations of Socratic method in moral education in schools.
