Abstract

Stululik (207) folowed Li (200) in analyzing optimal R&D intensity rate and considering 2-sector R&D-based endogenous growth model. A third generation of endogenous models considers 2 activites simultaneously. And, it deletes scale efct in product variety sector. In this study, we also calibrate Korean economy through the third generation R&D-based endogenous growth model incorporating raisng quality and product variety simultanously. The optimal rate for welfare-enhancing intensity is 3.184%(relative to GDP) in the later and 2.014% in the former, respectively. This implies that total optimal intensity is about 5.2%. And, this result predicts relatively high than that of previous literature. The decentralized equilbium has not deviate so much from optimal solution. But, R&D intensity from real data was much lower in 2017. This study provide implications that excesive input is used in quality raisng sector, and it canot atain social welfare utilty maximization.
