문학작품 내에서의 독서치료의 양상 -김원우의『짐승의 시간』과 토마스 만의『토니오 크뢰거』를 중심으로

독서치료에 대한 정의는 하인스와 하인스-베리의 다음과 같은 말이 거의 정설로 굳어지고 있다. “독서치료란 근본적으로 문학작품이든 비문학작품이든 책을 통해서 정신건강을 증진시키고 개인의 문제를 해결하며 사회적 관심이 무엇인지 알게 한다.” 책 이외의 읽기자료나 영상자료 또는 음악자료 등도 독서치료의 중요한 매개가 될 수 있지만 책, 특히 문학작품이나 서사는 그것이 과거를 말한다는 점에서 독서치료의 가장 중요한 자료라고 할 수 있다. 흔히들 독서치료의 3요소를 책, 치료자, 내담자라고 한다. 이 3요소의 통합적 작용으로 독서치료의 효과가 드러날 것임은 누구나 이해하고 인정할 수 있을 것이다. 본고에서 다루고자 하는 것은 임상적 독서치료가 아닌 책, 특히 문학작품을 통해 그로 인해 파생된 불안감, 분노, 애증의 원인을 이해하고 진단하고 해소할 수 있는 독서치료이다. 본고에서는 김원우의『짐승의 시간』과 독일의 유명작가 토마스 만의『토니오 크뢰거』를 독서치료적 관점에서 분석하고자 하는데,『토니오 크뢰거』에서는 유년시절의 거부나 모욕감으로 인한 이성(동성)친구에 대한 불안이나 우울 등이 잘 드러나 있으며,『짐승의 시간』에서는 1980년대 ‘민주화에의 열망’이라는 사회적 요청 속에서 당대의 집단적이고 지배적인 정념들과의 분열이 주인공에게서 잘 드러나고 있다. 그래서 먼저 각 작품의 시대적, 정신적 배경을 살펴보고,『짐승의 시간』에서의 주인공 기중의 독서치료 양상과『토니오 크뢰거』에서의 주인공 토니오 크뢰거의 독서 치료를 통한 삶과 죽음의 갈등 극복을 고찰하고자 한다.
Abstract
Reading materials other than books, video materials, or music materials can also be important mediators of reading therapy, but books, especially literary works or narratives, can be said to be the most important materials of reading therapy in that they refer to the past. Often, the three elements of reading therapy are called books, therapists, and clients. Anyone can understand and admit that the effects of reading therapy will be revealed through the integrated action of these three elements. The purpose of this study is not clinical reading therapy, but reading therapy that can understand, diagnose, and resolve the causes of anxiety, anger, and love and hatred derived from books and literary works. In this paper, I would like to analyze Kim Won-Woo's Time of the Beast and Tonio Kröger by famous German writer Thomas Mann from the perspective of reading therapy. The anxiety and depression of the person are well revealed, and in Time of the Beasts, the division with the group and dominant passions of the time is clearly revealed in the protagonist in the social request of ‘aspiration for democratization’ in the 1980s. So, first of all, we will look at the historical and spiritual background of each work, and overcome the conflict between life and death through reading therapy of Ki- Joong, the protagonist in Time of the Beasts, and Tonio Kröger's reading therapy in Tonio Kröger I would like to consider.
