Abstract
This study aims to understand the narrative characteristics revealed in the folktale "The Bachelor Who Married the Maiden Brought by a Tiger" in consideration of young adult development and to utilize its meaning in literary therapy. To this end, various versions of the folktale were examined to identify its fundamental narrative structure. Based on this structure, three key narratives were derived: "The tiger with a hairpin stuck in its throat seeks help from the bachelor," "The bachelor marries the maiden brought by the tiger," and "The bachelor wins a bet against the maiden’s former fiancée." These three key narratives were analyzed in connection with the major developmental task of the young adult period: the development of intimacy. This study interprets this process: as encountering uncontrolled instinctive energy, following this instinctive energy to meet a person with whom intimacy is formed, and ultimately learning to consciously control and regulate this energy to establish and maintain intimacy. The findings of this study offer young people who struggle with the formation and experience of intimacy opportunities for self-understanding. Furthermore, they provide valuable insights that can help them successfully navigate the developmental tasks required for a healthy transition into adulthood.
