Abstract
In this paper I explain Darwin's view on animal emotion, animal language, and the differences between men and animals. And I examine contemporary research on these issues. I argue three points. First of all, it is needed to distinguish emotion from feeling to solve the problems of animal emotion. Secondly, the viewpoint of Hauser, Chomsky, and Fitch that animals have the faculty of language in the broad sense, but not in the narrow sense is useful to understand animal language. Thirdly, a new framework of animal philosophy including animal mind and animal body is needed to solve Darwin's problem of classifying the evolutionary steps of mental powers of animals.
