Abstract
Ironically the higher becomes the rate of growth of global economy, the bigger possibilities of global environmental disaster become. Futhermore neoliberalism on which global economy has been based for recent two decades has aggravated human life conditions through a global aggravation of the bipolarization. Therefore CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is a practical device to correct the global paradoxes. But as a device for regulating social issues including environmental pollutions and violations of human rights CSR has a fundamental limit, because it is employed only within a range of capitalistic machineries like private autonomy, self-regulation etc. Recently the range of legal regulations has fortunately become wider. At first this thesis tries to justify CSR theoretically in the light of theories about essence of a corporate body and a business corporation. This thesis advocates a social corporation approach. However only a social approach can not recognize CSR, but also the other approaches like ownership or contract approach can admit CSR. More important is practicing CSR than theoretic justification for CSR. Secondly dealing with the present states and limits of self regulation for CSR, this thesis tries to reason that self regulation for CSR has fundamental problems such as sameness of regulator and regulatee, degradation of CSR as a commercial decoration resulting from pursuing self interests and inactivity of international regulating multinationals etc. Finally this thesis emphasis on interaction between compulsory regulation and self regulation for practicing CSR.
