본 연구의 목적은 장소를 통해 존재의 의미를 회복하고 자아 정체성을 명료화하는데 기여할 수 있는 수업 방법을 모색하는데 있다. 이를 위해 이론적 접근과 실행 연구를 병행하였다. 먼저 일상생활세계에서 직접 경험하는 의미의 중심이라고 할 수 있는 ‘장소’와 장소와의 심리적이고 감정적인 관계를 뜻하는 ‘장소 유대감’에 대해 이론적으로 체계화하였다. 장소 유대감은 장소 애착, 장소 정체성, 장소 의지로 구성되며, 이 중 장소 정체성은 장소에서의 사람의 사회화와 관련되어 개인의 자아 정체성과 깊이 관련되어 있다. 본 연구의 자아 정체성은 ‘나는 누구인가?’에 대해 이야기 하는 과정에서 형성되는 서사적 정체성 측면에서 논의하였다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 학습자들이 본인의 삶에서 가장 의미 있는 장소를 말하는 과정을 통해 정체성을 형성할 수 있도록 수업을 설계하고, 실제 지리 수업에서 적용하였다. 수업의 주요 절차는 ‘교사의 의미 있는 장소 소개’, ‘학습자의 의미 있는 장소에 대한 사진 준비와 쓰기’, ‘학습자의 의미 있는 장소에 대한 발표’로 이루어졌다. 장소를 만들어가는 주체인 학습자들은 의미 있는 장소에 대한 기억과 경험을 나누고, 자기 스스로에 대해 고민해보는 활동 등을 통해 자신의 정체성을 명료화하였다. 학생들이 발표한 장소는 또 다시 학생 자신을 설명해주고 있었으며, 학생들이 세상을 살아가는데 긍정적인 힘을 제공하고 계속적으로 그 의미를 재생산하고 있었다.
Abstract
This paper aims to find the way of teaching process which can contribute for the clarification of self-identity and regain the significance of existence through ‘the place’. To achieve this aim, this paper took the theoretical approach and the practical approach. First of all, this paper was an attempt to systematize the theory related to ‘place’ as a center of the meaning of experience in daily life directly and the theory related to ‘place bonding’ as a meaning of psychological and emotional relationships with the place. Place bonding is comprised of place attachment, place dependence and place identity, and place identity is deeply related with self-identity, since the place helps the socialization of the people. Selfidentity in this paper was discussed from the aspect of ‘narrative identity’ formed when we talk about ‘who am I?’. Teaching process is designed for learners to be able to form their identities during they talk about the most meaningful place of their own life in the classroom, and tried to apply the teaching process in real geography class. The main process of the class were constructed of ‘the introduction of a meaningful place by teacher personally’, ‘the writing and preparation of a picture for a meaningful place by learners’, and ‘the presentation for the learner’s meaningful place’. The learners as main agent of taking care of the place could clarify their self-identity through the learner’s sharing of memories and experiences of a meaningful place in geography class and the activities worried about themselves. The places presented by learners showed who themselves are again in there, and it was reproducing the meaning continuously and providing the positive energy to learner to live.
