편견감소교육 방향 모색을 위한 외국인과의 접촉빈도와 편견 간 매개효과 분석

본 연구는 다문화사회에서 함께 살아가야 하는 외국인에 대한 편견을 줄이기 위한 교육 방향을 모색하기 위하여 외국인과의 접촉빈도가 그들에 대한 편견에 미친 영향과 그 과정에서 나타난 매개효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 대학생 561명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 외집단과의 접촉빈도는 자아불안감과 타자불안감에는 부적인 영향을, 자기노출에는 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 외집단과의 접촉빈도가 외집단 편견에 미치는 영향에서 타자불안감과 자기노출은 완전 매개효과가 나타났으나 자아불안감은 매개효과가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 외집단과의 접촉빈도가 높을수록 타자불안감은 낮아지고 자기노출은 높아져 외집단 편견이 감소한다. 셋째, 외집단과의 접촉빈도가 외집단 편견에 미치는 영향에 있어서 자기노출은 타자불안감보다 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 타자불안감이 자기노출에 영향을 미치는 이중 매개효과도 확인하였다. 이상에서 볼 때 편견감소교육을 위해서 외국인들과의 접촉빈도보다 불안감을 줄이고 자기노출을 늘릴 수 있는 접촉의 질이 중요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Abstract

In order to search for a new direction of education, designed to alleviate prejudice on foreigners, this study aims to confirm the effect of out-group contact frequency on out-group prejudice and the mediating effect presented within this process. For this, a survey has been conducted to 561 undergraduate students, and the results are as followed. Firstly, out-group contact frequency exerted negative influence on self-anxiety and other-anxiety, positive influence on self-disclosure. Second, considering the effect of out-group contact frequency on out-group prejudice, a full mediating effect has been observed in both other-anxiety and self-disclosure. However, mediating effect has not been found in self-anxiety. Hence out-group frequency has a positive correlation with self-disclosure, and a negative correlation with other-anxiety, which means that increased other-contact frequency entails decreased out-group prejudice. Thirdly, regarding the effect of out-group contact frequency on out-group prejudice, self-disclosure exerts a greater influence compared to out-group anxiety. Also, a dual mediating effect, which is out-group anxiety affecting self-disclosure, has been confirmed. As seen above, the contact frequency with foreigners is not the crucial factor. Instead, other-anxiety and self-disclosure were the important factors.
