Abstract
In 2015, a revised national curriculum, called the 2015 National Curriculum Revision, was introduced in South Korea in which the idea of creative and well-rounded people was considered a prime educational goal. To achieve this goal, a school subject called ‘Integrated Social Studies’ was introduced as a mandatory subject for high school students in South Korea. According to the 2015 NCR, through the subject composed of nine core concepts, students will develop global citizenship dispositions towards a more equitable and peaceful world. By focusing on the concept of ‘justice’ as one of the core ideas, this study aims to explore how to deal distinctively with this concept in school geography. Regarding this purpose, three enquiry stages are considered: the first is to review literature on justice; the second is to identify the orientation of justice within three different traditions of global education and the third is to suggest an alternative school geography curriculum. By referring to the ideas of distributive justice among justice discourses, global social justice, as a common ground in the lineage of global education and the geographical idea of spatial inequality, the study concludes with some suggestions for the development of an alternative geography curriculum for justice.
