이 글의 목적은 근대성의 역설에 대한 진단을 중심으로 프랑크푸르트 학파 1,2,3 세대 비판이론의 전개과정을 비판적으로 검토하는 데에 있다. 비판이론의 역사에서 근대성의 역설에 대한 진단이 곧 ‘시대진단’을 의미하고 있다는 점에서, 이러한 검토는 비판이론의 시대진단 모델의 변화를 해명하는 작업이라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 시대진단 혹은 현실진단은 비판사회이론 일반을 구축하기 위한 전제이자 동시에 대안제시의 방향을 설정하는 중심적 역할을 수행한다. 이런 점에서 이러한 작업은 프랑크푸르트 학파 비판이론의 전개과정을 이해하고 평가하기 위한 필수적 작업이다. 이러한 시대진단들의 요지를 비판적으로 검토한 후, 우리는 이러한 작업들이 오 늘날 한국사회의 현실을 성찰하고 진단하고자 하는 시도들에 대해 가지는 의미는 무엇인지를 검토하고자 한다. 여기서는 오늘날 우리 현실이 요구하는 시대진단은 신자유주의적 세계화 흐름 속에서 가속화되는 양극화 현상의 극복을 위해 시장체계가 산출하는 문제들이 가지는 핵심적 지위를 강조하는 조건에서, 이러한 문제로 환원될 수 없는 다양한 사회적 갈등들에 대한 검토를 동시에 진행할 필요가 있다는 점을 지적할 것이다.
Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine the development of Frankfurt School critically, centering on the diagnoses of the paradox of modernity in first, second, third generation. In the history of Frankfurt School the diagnosis of paradox of modernity means the diagnosis of the times, therefore this examination is the work to explain the exchanges of the models of the diagnosis of the times in Frankfurt School. The diagnosis of the times or the diagnosis of actuality is a basis for constructing critical theory in general and giving the orientation of alternatives. Here this work is necessary for us to understand and evaluate the development of Frankfurt School. After the critical examination of the point of their diagnoses of the times I will examine the meanings of this work for the attempts to reflex and diagnose the actuality of Korean society. I argue that the diagnosis of Korean society is above all to concentrate on the problems produced by market system to dissolute the bipolarization and simultaneously to focus on the diverse social conflicts which can not be reduced to these problems.
