1990년대 이후 전 세계는 정치적, 경제적, 문화적으로 하나의 통합된 네트워크를 형성함으로써 인류를 구성원으로 하는 보편적 공동체로 재편되기 시작했으며, 이는 향후 인류가 추구해야 할 세계질서의 근본 방향이 무엇인지에 대한 논의를 사회․정치철학의 핵심 쟁점으로 만들고 있다. 칸트는 이러한 논의의 가장 영향력 있는 선구자이다. 왜냐하면 그는 현존하는 세계질서를 비판할 수 있는 규범적 토대이자 인류가 추구해야 할 세계질서의 원칙으로 ‘세계시민사회이념’을 제시했기 때문이다. 그러나 칸트의 이론은 내용적으로 볼 때 당시의 경험적 지평을 전제한 것으로서 시대적 한계뿐만 아니라, 개념적 한계 또한 드러내고 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 전제 하에 우선 전 세계적 네트워크 등장 이후 국제정치학과 사회․정치철학에서 일어난 이론적 전환을 개괄하면서 세계적 차원의 사회비판이론이 무엇이며, 왜 이러한 이론이 필요한 가를 설명한다. 그리고 본 논문은 칸트의 세계시민사회이념을 합목적성, 항쟁, 시민사회라는 세 가지 개념적 틀을 통해 해명하고, 이러한 이론이 세계적 차원의 사회비판이론으로서 가질 수 있는 장점과 한계 가 무엇인지를 밝힌다. 끝으로 본 논문은 칸트의 세계시민사회이념의 규범적 기조를 유지하면서도 그 한계를 극복하기 위해 호네트의 인정이론에 근거하여 개념적 재구성을 시도할 것이다. 호네트의 인정이론이 제공하는 개념적 장치는 세계적 차원에서 일어나는 다양한 갈등과 대립을 포섭할 뿐만 아니라, 그 대안 역시 제시할 수 있다는 점에서 칸트의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 적절한 이론 틀이 될 수 있기 때문이다.
Abstract
Since the world in the 1990s has begun to be reorganized as the political, economical, and cultural network which consists of mankind, has it become the main debate in the social-political philosophy, what is the basic principle of world order. In this debate Kant is a influential pioneer, because he presents the idea of the world civil society that is the normative foundation for criticism of world order and it's principle. But Kant's idea has empirical and conceptual limits. In this article I try to summarize the theoretical paradigm-shift in the area of the international politics and the social-political philosophy and to explain what is the critical social theory in the world scale and why is it necessary. And I try to explain Kant's idea according to three concepts: fitness of purpose, antagonism, civil society, and to make clear where is it's merits and demerits. Finally on the basis of recognition-theory I try to reconstitute Kant's idea of the world civil society in order to maintain it's normative core and to overcome it's limits. I think that Honneth's recognition-theory appropriate conceptual flames for this attempt.
