한나 아렌트의 학문적 결실은 시대의 압박 속에서 있는 현실 문제들에 대한 직접적 응답으로 이루어졌다. 그녀의 정신을 따라 이 논문은 현실의 구제적인 문제들에 집중하여 사유를 전개한 저술들인 『전체주의의 기원』과 『혁명론』, 『공화국의 위기』에서 일관되게 나타나는 그녀의 공화주의적 사상을 통해 한국 정치에 대해 우리가 주목해야 할 화두를 살펴본다. 이 논문은 우리가 가치와 의미의 차원을 상실하지 않은 채 현실에 대해 제대로 반응해야 한다는 점, 우리의 정치 문화의 건전성과 가능성을 정치적 자유를 중심으로 반성할 필요가 있다는 점, 우리의 정치가 법을 구성하는 근원적 합의를 토대로 방향 잡이를 해야 한다는 점, 헌법이 민주주의가 다수의 지배에서 벗어나 공공성을 정치 영역에서 확보할 수 있는 근거로 작용할 수 있도록 해야 한다는 점, 권력의 독점을 통해서가 아니라 분점을 통해서 건전한 정치를 이룰 환경을 조성해야 한다는 점, 변화하는 시대에 안정성을 유지하면서도 변화에 적응하는 유연성을 시민불복종의 확립을 통해 추구해야 한다는 점 등을 주장한다.
Abstract
Hannah Arendt’s political ideas are the results of direct confrontation to the concret events from the reality. Following her spirit, this paper draws some issues concerning Korean contemporary politics on the basis of her republican ideas of her major works such as The Origins of Totalitarianism, On Revolution, and The Crises of the Republic. This paper argues that we need to respond the reality without losing values and meaning, that we may judge the prospect of our political culture in terms of political freedom, that we need to focus on the fundamental consensus that constitutes law and order, that we need to rehabilitate the Constitution so as to secure the publicity in the political realm, that power needs not to be monopolized but to be divided to provide politics with a good environment, and that we need to give a firm root to the idea of civil disobedience so as to adapt to new circumstances while sustaining stability somehow.
