과학고 졸업생들의 초등학교부터 현재까지 진로 선택과정 추적 연구

본 연구에서는 과학고를 입학한 지 10년이 지난 졸업생들을 대상으로 초 · 중 · 고 · 대학교 당시의 진로희망과 현재 직업까지 남녀별로 진로 선택과정에 차이가 있는지를 분석하고, 현재 직업에 영향을 가장 많이 미친 변인이 무엇인지를 탐색하고자 하였다. 과학고 졸업생들의 진로 선택과정에서 초등학교에서 현재 직업까지 진로의 변화를 보면, 자연과학 계열은 줄어들고 공학 계열은 증가하였으나, 기타 계열과 의약학 계열에서는 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 남녀별로 보면 자연과학 계열과 공학 계열 변화에서는 별 차이가 없었으나, 의학계의 경우에는 여학생은 증가하고, 기타 계열을 선택한 여학생은 줄어들다가 다시 증가하여 남학생과 차이를 보였다. 과학고 졸업생의 현재 직업에 영향을 미친 변인들을 회귀분석으로 알아본 결과 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이는 것으로는 현재 직업이 자연과학 계열인 사람들은 중학교 수학 · 과학 내신성적과 수학· 과학 창의력 평가 성적이 우수한 사람이 많았고, 공학 계열인 사람들은 과학고에서 조기졸업을 한 사람, 과학고 졸업이 대학 생활에 영향을 많이 미쳤다고 생각하는 사람이 많았으며, 의약학계열인 사람들은 정상 졸업을 한 사람, 부모 학력이 높은 사람이 많았으며, 기타 계열인 사람은 초등 수학의 수월성, 중학교 내신 성적, 수학 · 과학 창의력 평가 성적이 낮을수록 많았다. 결과적으로는 과학고에 진학하여 수학 · 과학 공부가 적성에 맞고 내신성적이 좋은 학생들은 이공 계열의 직업을 갖게 되고, 반대의 경우는 기타 계열의 직업을 많이 갖게 되었음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in the career process between male and female students in terms of career hopes at the time of elementary, middle, high school, college, and college graduates, and their present occupations. For this purpose, 60 students who entered the science high school in 2007 were selected as subjects and the results were analyzed using the information they had during their school years and a developed questionnaire. There were significant differences between men and women in their career process from their career hopes to present occupations. Most male students are working as engineers, while female students mostly in medical or other area. Many students wanted natural scientists in elementary school, but after high school, they prefer engineers. After graduating from college, they choose engineers because it is relatively easy to get hired. On the other hand, female students wanted to study the natural sciences during elementary school. However, when they entered junior high or high school, they had encountered at advanced level in science and mathematics, and realized not fitting well in the area. Regression analysis of the variables affecting the present occupation showed statistically significant difference. Based on the regression analysis, variables affecting to choose present occupation are identified.
