본 논문은 규범 윤리적 관점에서 소크라테스 윤리 사상의 재구성을 시도한다. 소크라테스의 윤리 사상의 주요 내용은 “너 자신을 알라!”, 대화법, 윤리적 보편주의, 주지주의 등으로 알려져 있다. 하지만 이러한 내용만으로는 소크라테스의 규범 윤리적 주장이 무엇인지를 명확하게 파악하기 어렵다. 왜냐하면 엄밀히 말해 “너 자신을 알라!”와 대화법은 윤리학적 탐구 방법론이고 윤리적 보편주의와 주지주의는 메타 윤리적 주장이기 때문이다. 본 논문은 여기에 “영혼을 돌보라!”와 위해 불가의 원리가 추가되어야 한다고 주장한다. 이 두 가지가 소크라테스가 주장한 윤리적 삶의 핵심 내용이기 때문이다. 따라서 이 두 가지 규범 윤리적 주장을 추가하여 소크라테스의 윤리 사상을 “영혼을 돌보라!”->윤리적 보편주의->주지주의->위해 불가의 원리->다시 “영혼을 돌보라!”라는 순환 구조로 재구성해야만 소크라테스의 규범 윤리적 주장이 무엇인지를 명확히 파악할 수 있다고 주장한다.
Abstract
This paper tries to reorganize Socrates’ Ethical Thoughts focused upon his normative ethical arguments. In general, “Know yourself!”, dialogues, ethical universalism, intellectualism are known as the contents of Socrates’ ethical thoughts. However, these does not give the information about normative ethical assertion of Socrates’s ethical thoughts. To say exactly, “Know yourself!” and dialogues are about the method of ethics. Ethical universalism and intellectualism also are not normative ethical insistence but meta ethical arguments of Socrates. This paper insists that “Care about your soul!” and the principle of impossibility of doing harm should be added to Socrates’ Ethical Thoughts because those are the key normative arguments. So, the whole picture of Socrates’ ethical thoughts should be reorganize with those two normative arguments as follows: “Care about your soul!”->Ethical universalism-> intellectualism->the principle of impossibility of doing harm->“Care about your soul!
