다문화보육 실천 어려움에 관한 연구: 보육교직원의 다문화보육 컨설팅 사전질문지 내용 분석을 바탕으로

본 연구는 다문화보육 실천에 어려움을 느끼는 보육교직원의 내면을 이해함으로써 추후 보육교직원 대상 다문화교육을 실시할 때 보다 전략적이고 효과적인 교육을 구상하는데 도움이 되고자 실시되었다. 이를 위해, 이론적으로는 ‘귀인 이론(attribution theory)’를 사용하고 방법론 적으로는 ‘질적 내용 분석(qualitative content analysis)’을 사용하여 보육교직원이 작성한 컨설 팅 사전질문지 171건을 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과, 보육교직원이 언급한 어려움은 크게 다문 화 영유아를 보육하며 겪는 어려움과 다문화보육을 현장에서 실천하려 할 때 겪는 어려움, 두 가지로 분류되었다. 보육교직원은 각 어려움의 요인을 다르게 귀인하였는데, 이는 귀인 과정에 서 발생하는 여러 오류가 작용한 결과로 이해할 수 있었다. 다양한 귀인 오류의 발생 원인을 분석하는 과정에서 많은 보육교직원이 문화결핍 패러다임 및 동화주의적 사고를 바탕으로 다 문화 영유아 및 양육자를 이해하고 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 다문화보육의 목적, 실천 방법 등에 대해서도 관광식 접근법이라는 잘못된 인식을 갖고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 연구결과를 바탕 으로 보육교직원 대상 다문화교육 내용 구성에 도움이 되는 제안을 한다.

Abstract

This study was conducted to understand early childhood educators’ challenges when enacting multicultural pedagogy in early childhood settings. The study employed ‘attribution theory’ as a theoretical framework. ‘Qualitative content analysis’ was utilized as a data analysis method to examine the underlying mechanism which shapes early childhood educators’ experiences of enacting multicultural pedagogy. The unit of analysis consisted of 171 early childhood educators’ pre-consulting questionnaires about multicultural education. The study revealed that early childhood educators faced two strands of difficulties: first, the challenges of caring and educating children from non-dominant cultures, and second, the challenges of enacting multicultural pedagogy in early childhood settings. It was observed that the early childhood educators attributed differently per challenge and made several attribution errors. By examining the attribution errors, this study concluded that the majority of early childhood educators held rather deficit perspectives towards marginalized children and families, based on the assimilation approach. In addition, many early childhood educators understood multicultural education from a tourist curriculum approach. Based on the findings, this study suggests specific curricular contents that should be addressed during multicultural education professional development for early childhood educators.
