본 논문은 동물 윤리와 AI 윤리에서 논의되는 도덕적 지위 논변으로부터 인간의 도덕적 지위를 역으로 도출해내는 것을 시도하고자 한다. 동물과 AI에 관한 윤리적 관심이 증대하면서 각 대상의 도덕적 지위를 탐구하는 시도들도 존재해왔다. 그리고 그 시도들은 동물과 AI가 인간의 능력을 부분적으로 공유한다는 사실에 기반한다. 이는 동물 윤리와 AI 윤리에서의 도덕적 지위 논변이 인간의 도덕적 지위를 확보하는 데 도움이 될 수 있음을 시사한다. 본 논문의 시도를 성공적으로 수행한다면, 동물과 AI의 도덕적 지위 논변이 각 대상의 지위를 확보하고자 하는 합리화에 불과하다는 비판에서 벗어날 수 있다. 나아가 다양한 대상들에게 도덕적 지위를 부여하는 공통의 근거를 마련함으로써 각 대상에 관한 도덕적 대우의 규범적 기준을 마련할 수 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 다음과 같은 순서로 구성된다. 첫째, 동물의 도덕적 지위 논변을 검토한다. 둘째, AI의 도덕적 지위 논변을 검토한다. 셋째, 동물과 AI의 도덕적 지위 논변에서 도출되는 도덕적 지위 근거를 종합하여 인간의 도덕적 지위 기준을 제시한다.
Abstract
This paper tries to derive the moral status of humans from the related arguments discussed in animal ethics and AI ethics. Ethical concerns regarding animals and AI have increased, and there have been attempts to explore the moral status of each object. And the effort is based on the fact that animals and AI share some of the capabilities of humans. This suggests that moral status arguments in animal ethics and AI ethics can help arrange the moral status of humans. If the attempts of this paper are successfully carried out, we will be able to escape from the criticism that the debate on the moral status of animals and AIis nothing more than a rationalization aimed at securing the status of each object. Furthermore, by providing a common basis for assigning moral status to diverse objects, we can provide normative standards for the moral treatment of each object. Therefore, this paper is structured in the following order. First, we will consider arguments for the moral status of animals. Second, we will examine the question of the moral status of AI. Third, we synthesize the moral status grounds derived from the moral status argument for animals and AI and present a standard for human moral status.
