연구 목적: 본 연구는 새로운 빙하기를 맞이한 디스토피아적 미래를 묘사하고 있는 봉준호 감독의 영화 『설국열차』에 탑승한 사람들이 기후 위기로 인해 발생한 일종의 환경난민임을 살펴보는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 『설국열차』 속 주인공들의 발언과 이미지 등을 통해 기차의 공간적 의미를 분석하고 꼬리 칸에서 시작된 투쟁이 정치적 목적보다 생존을 위한 투쟁이었음을 분석해본다. 연구 내용: 생태학적 위기가 초래했던 최근의 난민 문제를 거론하면서, 재난 이후 하나의 ‘작은 지구’가 되어버린 열차에서 벌어지는 인간의 생존을 위한 투쟁이 인간 대 자연의 문제로 그려지는 과정을 살펴본다. 또한 주인공들이 최후의 상황에서 마주하게 된 희망을 통해 미래의 생태적 환경을 예측해본다. 결론 및 제언: 그동안 우리는 태풍, 지진, 가뭄 등을 자연재해로 규정할 뿐 생태학적 위기라고 명확하게 규정해오지 않았다. 하지만 기후위기가 앞으로 전쟁이나 분쟁으로 겪게 되는 위기보다 더 파괴력 높은 위기 상황을 야기할 수 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 우리는 디스토피아적 관점으로 작품 속에 그려진 파괴된 지구가 아닌 인간과 자연이 적절한 균형을 유지하며 공존할 수 있는 유토피아적 지구를 꿈꿔본다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the people who boarded Bong Joon-ho’s movie Snowpiercer, which depicts a dystopian future facing a new ice age, as a kind of environmental refugees caused by the climate crisis. Through the remarks and images of the main characters in Snowpiercer, we analyze the spatial meaning of the train and analyze that the struggle that started in the tail compartment was a struggle for survival rather than a political purpose. Discussing the recent refugee issue caused by the ecological crisis, we look at how the struggle for human survival on a train that has become a ‘small earth’ after the disaster is portrayed as a problem between humans and nature. In addition, the future ecological environment is predicted through the hope that the protagonists face in the final situation. So far, we have defined typhoons, earthquakes, and droughts as natural disasters, but have not clearly defined them as ecological crises. However, it was confirmed that the climate crisis can cause a crisis situation that is more destructive than the crisis experienced by war or conflict in the future. Therefore, we dream of a utopian earth where humans and nature can coexist in an appropriate balance, not the destroyed earth depicted in the works from a dystopian perspective.
